Overlooking the delightful and traditional market town of Framlingham and indeed The Crown Hotel, is the imposing Framlingham Castle, a magnificent example of  late 12th-century architecture, built by Roger Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, one of the most influential people at the court of the Plantagenet kings. Together with Framlingham Mere it acted as a stronghold and a proclamation of power and status.

In addition, the array of independent shops, cafes and boutiques, the Saturday morning market and the wealth of footpaths and countryside make this one of the most
picturesque towns in East Anglia.
